JOHN M. MC MAHAN

Mr. McMahan has over 25 years of experience working in the field of healthcare information systems with particular focus on radiology and laboratory information management systems.   As Senior Consultant for Dennis Winsten & Associates, Inc., he has served a wide variety of healthcare providers and laboratories.  He has a broad background tied together with a common thread.  This thread is a commitment to improving the quality and effectiveness of computer support to healthcare providers.

Mr. McMahan has provided services in selecting, implementing, and managing effective laboratory and radiology systems. His accomplishments reflect an ability to find creative, cost effective solutions to the real problems faced by service providers.

Mr. McMahan was instrumental in the successful installation of an SMS laboratory and radiology information system at a complex multi-hospital integrated delivery system in eastern Pennsylvania.

As a vendor of systems, Mr. McMahan's responsibilities included product development, client support, and facility management.  He has held executive or management positions with Baxter, Sunquest Information Systems, and CompuCare.

As Senior Consultant for Dennis Winsten & Associates he performs strategic information planning, system replacement plans, needs assessments, utilization reviews, and implementation planning for a wide variety of laboratory and radiology operations.

Mr. McMahan puts special emphasis on system evaluation, workflow analysis, and cost-effective re-engineering.  His diverse background and experience permits him to quickly assess situations, systems, and key issues, identify tradeoffs, and specify cost-effective solutions.

Mr. McMahan has received special training with Philip Crosby on Quality Improvement and KepnerTregoe on Rational Problem Solving and Decision Making.

He is affiliated with the Healthcare Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS), the Clinical Laboratory Management Association (CLMA), American Healthcare Radiology Administrators (AHRA), the American Hospital Association and the Association for Systems Management.  He has presented papers at meetings of groups as diverse as the Clinical Laboratory Management Association, MUMPS Users’ Group, University of Michigan and the Academy for Clinical Laboratory Physicians and Scientists.

Mr. McMahan has published articles in Healthcare Informatics, Advance for Laboratory Administrators, and other major industry publications.
