BARRY SIEGFRIED, M.D.

Dr. Siegfried's experience in the healthcare and information systems fields is extensive. He has served as attending clinical pathologist, director of clinical chemistry, and director of professional staff laboratory information system (LIS) development for Consultants in Laboratory Medicine of Greater Toledo, Inc. (CLM). His duties as an active member of The Toledo Hospital's medical staff included leadership of the Internet security team. Dr. Siegfried assisted in the installation of the CoPath anatomic pathology information system and the LabStat LIS. He was also responsible for the installation and configuration of Ethernet, TCP/IP, UNIX, and DOS/Windows in the Hospital's Department of Clinical Laboratories.

 Prior to working with CLM, Dr. Siegfried served as a consulting pathologist for the Metabolic Research Unit at the St. Louis unit of Shriner's Hospitals for Crippled Children and as an assistant director of clinical chemistry and urinalysis at the Jewish Hospital of St. Lewis. He held positions as Assistant Pathologist at Barnes Hospital and as Assistant Attending Physician at Jewish Hospital, both in St. Louis. He also served as Assistant Professor of Pathology and Medicine at Washington University, both in St. Louis.

 Dr. Siegfried's educational background is broad and varied. He received his M.D. in 1976 and his Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering in 1972, both from Washington University in St. Louis. His postdoctoral training included: Internship in General Surgery at the University of Utah at Salt Lake City, Residency in Laboratory Medicine at Barnes Hospital, Postdoctoral Research Fellowship sponsored by the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, and Residency in Anatomic Pathology at St. John's Mercy Medical Center in St. Louis. He has taken numerous courses in computers and information technology and has programming experience in high-level computer languages (Fortran, BASIC, Pascal, PL/I, COBOL, C, Lisp, Prolog, SQL, and UNIX Shell).

 Dr. Siegfried has written many papers which have appeared in publications such as: Clinical Chemistry, Journal of Biological Chemistry, and Journal of Magnetic Resonance. He jointly holds patents for his Histological Fixatives in the United States, Europe, Canada, Denmark, Ireland, and Japan (pending).

 Society memberships include: College of American Pathologists, American Association for Clinical Chemistry, Academy of Medicine of Toledo and Lucas County (local medical society), Ohio State Medical Association, and the American Medical Association.

 Dr. Siegfried received his diploma from the National Board of Medical Examiners in 1977 and was certified in clinical pathology by the American Board of Pathology in 1981. He is certified to practice in both Missouri and Ohio.
