DENNIS I. WINSTEN Mr. Winsten's uniquely diverse background encompasses over 25 years with computers, including 20 years in the application of computer systems to healthcare. He holds Bachelor's degrees in engineering and physics from the University of Arizona and Penn State University. His Master of Science degree in educational psychology was earned at the University of Southern California (USC). In addition, post-graduate work included emphasis on computer science and completion of course requirements for a Ph.D. in statistics and research design at the University of Minnesota. Published papers have included topics on clinical system evaluation, selection, and installation, multi-site networks, system contract criteria, HIS interfacing, and other subjects related to clinical information systems. He has been a speaker at numerous seminars and professional meetings. He has had extensive direct experience with laboratory, radiology, and hospital information systems and is thoroughly conversant with the various vendor systems available today. His background includes in-depth knowledge of laboratory, radiology, and hospital operations as well as the capabilities and constraints of today's computer and communications systems technology. Mr. Winsten's professional activities reflect the breadth and depth of his twenty-five years' experience. He has served as a healthcare system analyst, designer and developer, product and strategic planner, marketing director, and consultant for both users and vendors of laboratory, radiology, physician networks, data repositories, and other clinical information systems. Consulting engagements have been for such diverse clients as multi-site/multi-hospital networks, imaging centers, community and university hospitals. Mr. Winsten's professional affiliations include: Fellow, Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS); Clinical Laboratory Management Association (CLMA), Board of Directors, 1990-1993; American Healthcare Radiology Administrators (AHRA), American College of HealthCare Executives (ACHE); and the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), an information systems standards organization. He served as Clinical Systems Editor for Healthcare Informatics and on the editorial board for Clinical Laboratory Management Review (CLMR). Prior to founding Dennis Winsten & Associates, Inc., Mr. Winsten held management positions with various healthcare systems firms including Sunquest Information Systems, Custom Systems, Inc., Honeywell, DNA/Avnet, Medical Systems Technical Services, and TRW Systems. |
